Wednesday - soaking up Takayama, then moving on to Kanazawa

We really didn't want to leave Takayama, so we set out to maximize our time in town before we started our journey to Kanazawa. We packed up our bags and worked out a storage option with our hosts until the afternoon.

We started our day with a short walk to the daily morning market along the river. The market is only a block or two long, but it was active, with lots of crafts and useful food supplies. We found a few very nice wooden ornaments and sets of chopsticks here.

Then it was off to see some of the older town shrines that we had spied in the foothills, just a half mile from the center of town.

Back to the center of town for a ramen lunch ...

By late afternoon, it was time to begin our migration to Kanazawa.

It was quite late by the time we touched down in Kanazawa, but we were able to secure dinner at a local spot.

Julie and I found a local cocktail bar with an American theme, run by a man who traveled extensively in California in the 90's.
